Storage setup

Setting up OneDrive

OneDrive is one of the click-and-go options. No buckets, no API keys, no Azure tenant to configure. Click Connect, sign in with a Microsoft account, approve the requested scope, done. Personal accounts and work/school accounts both work.

Free tier

Only 5 GB

Free OneDrive accounts get only 5 GB — not enough for VOD archiving.

Scope

Files.ReadWrite

Personal OneDrive read/write only. Not Files.ReadWrite.All — that broader scope is not requested.

Best value

$6.99 / 1 TB

Microsoft 365 Personal $6.99/mo for 1 TB plus Office apps — the best per-GB cloud-drive deal if you need Office anyway.

Walkthrough

Five clicks to a connected drive

01

Step 1

Open the storage page

All storage providers, both bucket-based and cloud-drive, live in the same place inside VOD Manager.

  • Sign in to VOD Manager and open Storage from the top navigation.
  • Click Add storage profile. The provider list appears with bucket providers (R2, B2, AWS, Wasabi) at the top and cloud-drive providers below.
02

Step 2

Click Connect OneDrive

Choosing OneDrive starts an OAuth flow against Microsoft's identity platform. This is the same sign-in dance Outlook, Teams, and Office use.

  1. Click OneDrive in the provider list.
  2. Click Connect OneDrive. VOD Manager will redirect you to login.microsoftonline.com.
03

Step 3

Sign in and approve access

Microsoft asks which account you want to use. After you sign in, Microsoft shows the consent screen.

  1. Pick a Microsoft account. Personal accounts (Outlook, Hotmail, Live, Xbox) and work/school Azure AD accounts both work.
  2. Read the consent screen. VOD Manager requests one OneDrive scope: Files.ReadWrite plus a small profile read.
  3. Click Accept. Microsoft sends you back to VOD Manager.
04

Step 4

Name the storage profile

Once Microsoft sends you back, VOD Manager pre-fills a friendly name like "OneDrive (your-email@outlook.com)". Keep it or rename it.

  • Use a name like "Personal OneDrive" or "Work archive."
  • VOD Manager creates a top-level folder called VOD Manager the first time it writes a file. All future archives nest inside that folder, organized by Twitch channel and stream date.
05

Step 5

Assign Twitch accounts

A storage profile is not used until you tell VOD Manager which Twitch accounts should save here. You can have multiple storage profiles and route different Twitch accounts to different storage targets.

  • On the storage profile page, click Assign Twitch accounts.
  • Pick one or more Twitch accounts from the list of accounts you have linked to VOD Manager.
  • Save. Future VODs from those accounts will write here automatically once Twitch finishes processing each stream.

Scope explainer

What Files.ReadWrite actually allows

Files.ReadWrite is the standard OneDrive scope for read/write access to your personal OneDrive. We use it to create a "VOD Manager" folder, write archived VODs into it, read those files back when you ask for a download, and check file sizes for quota.

We are not requesting Files.ReadWrite.All — that broader scope would also include other people's files shared with you. User.Read reads only your name and email; offline_access lets us refresh your access without prompting hourly.

Account types

Personal vs work / school accounts

Both work. VOD Manager uses the "common" Microsoft tenant, so the consent screen accepts personal accounts (Outlook, Hotmail, Live, Xbox), Microsoft 365 family accounts, and Azure AD accounts from any organization.

Work or school accounts may show an extra "admin needs to approve" warning if your IT team has restricted external app access. Ask your admin or use a personal account instead.

Troubleshooting

Common issues

Need admin approval

Your work/school Azure AD admin has restricted external app sign-ins. Ask the admin to grant consent, or use a personal Microsoft account.

Quota exceeded

Free OneDrive accounts get only 5 GB. Empty the OneDrive recycle bin or upgrade to Microsoft 365 Personal.

Reconnect required

Microsoft refresh tokens can be revoked by a password change, conditional-access policy, or admin action. Click Reconnect from the storage page.

Pricing

Free tier vs. Microsoft 365 plans

A free Microsoft account comes with 5 GB of OneDrive storage — not enough for VOD archiving. A single 4-hour 1080p Twitch stream can be 8–12 GB.

Microsoft 365 Personal is the practical pick: ~$6.99/mo or $69.99/year for 1 TB of OneDrive plus Office apps. Microsoft 365 Family is ~$9.99/mo for 6 TB shared across up to six accounts.

OneDrive doesn't charge egress fees. Pull files using onedrive.com, the desktop sync client, or the mobile apps without watching a meter run.

Connect your Twitch account for real numbers

Last step

Save your VODs to OneDrive automatically

Once OneDrive is connected, VOD Manager saves future streams to your OneDrive folder after Twitch finishes processing them.

Microsoft may change UI, scopes, plans, or limits. Pricing checked April 2026; check Microsoft's docs for current details: Microsoft 365 plans, Graph permissions, OneDrive support.
